Veronica Levrie, who attended Weatherford College before coming to UT Arlington, is now in her second semester studying nursing and plans to minor in Spanish medical translations. As she was juggling raising two kids while looking into being a full-time nursing student, Levrie said she had a lot to consider when looking for an educational institution to “call home for the next several years.”

“As a nontraditional student and a first-generation student, I needed all the help I could get trying to navigate the intricate college system,” Levrie said. “When looking at colleges, I needed a school with a good track record and a high-quality education that was close to home.”

Levrie said she has enjoyed her time at UTA so much that she plans to continue graduate school here in the future to achieve her dream to become a psychiatric nurse practitioner.

“UTA has provided me the space to thrive. I could not have picked a better school to transfer to once I finished community college,” she said. “College can be difficult, and it is definitely not always easy—but it is worth it with the right guidance.”

UTA is ranked No. 5 nationally by U.S. News & World Report for universities that enroll the most transfer students and has been recognized for helping them to grow as scholars and leaders. The transfer-friendly accolades are useful for prospective community college transfer students searching for a university that best meets their unique needs. Staff at UTA have also worked tirelessly to serve as a national model of success in identifying best practices for transfer students.

“Our diverse student body is made richer by the talented transfer students who already have achieved so much in their pursuit of higher education,” said Ashley Purgason, associate vice provost for student success at UT Arlington. “Transfer students like Veronica Levrie are often balancing multiple responsibilities and represent the strong work ethic of Maverick students. UTA is committed to their success and offers a robust set of services to ensure we make the transition to UTA as smooth as possible.”

Mavericks should be sure to check out these events and more to help set them up for success:
