Program Overview

The Master of Science in Engineering Management is a STEM program designed to introduce both engineering and business tools to engineering professionals who will be moving into leadership positions in product development, strategic planning, or managing the organization’s technology resources. Graduates develop an understanding of how to use an organization’s technical knowledge, skills, and abilities to meet their strategic objectives.

Successful applicants to the Engineering Management Master of Science program typically have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering or science with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the last 60 credits of their bachelor's program and 3.0 in all prior graduate coursework. Strong math skills are helpful. The GRE and Letters of recommendation are not required for the program.

Joel Sheffield

Joel Sheffield always knew he would pursue a graduate degree, but he wasn’t sure what he wanted to study.

The Lockheed Martin systems engineer had considered an MBA or an engineering Master’s degree, and when he heard about the master’s degree program in engineering management at UTA Fort Worth, he knew it was a fit.

The campus was less than a mile from his home and the 8-week classes were convenient because he could take two classes per semester, but not at the same time. It was perfect for a person who was working every day and had other interests and activities.

“I work with engineering teams and program managers, and I want to move into a program manager position. I was exposed to management terms and concepts at work, but my classes helped me understand them at a deeper level, so I’ll be able to apply them in my next position. Every instructor I had was great. They provided one-on-one support and understood that I was a working professional,” Sheffield said.

The 30-credit hour accelerated program can be completed in 16 months and features hybrid, 8-week courses that generally meet once in person and once online per week. This flexibility and short length to completion is helpful for working professionals who have busy personal and professional lives.
