Advising Requirements for Post-Licensure Undergraduate Nursing Students

Students in a campus-based post-licensure undergraduate program are required to meet in person with an Academic Advisor once a semester.

Students in the Accelerated Online post-licensure undergraduate program are encouraged to be in regular communication with an Academic Advisor. Unlike the on-campus program, a registration hold is not applied each semester that requires students to meet with their Academic Advisor. Once admitted to UT Arlington, students in the Accelerated Online post-licensure program are required to complete a live Virtual Orientation Session prior to enrolling in courses. A course evaluation will be provided by a College of Nursing and Health Innovation Academic Advisor within five weeks of all transcripts being sent to the Office of Admissions. Students may plan their coursework using the Degree Map after coursework has been evaluated by an Academic Advisor. Students are encouraged to contact the RN Advising Team with any questions. Information to help students get ready and prepared for the first day of class is sent after admissions into the UTA and the program. It is imperative that students read and keep this information for future reference. Most advising is handled via e-mail, however, students may schedule a phone, face-to-face, or virtual appointment with an Academic Advisor as needed.

Before your appointment:

  1. Have a list of questions prepared to ask your advisor.
  2. Familiarize yourself with your program information, and your current progress in your program.
  3. Make arrangements to be on time to your advising appointment. Students who are more than ten minutes late will be rescheduled.

Nursing License Verification

Students are required to provide verification of an active, unencumbered license for acceptance into UTA and the Nursing program when submitting the application. The Office of Admissions and the College of Nursing and Health Innovation use NURSYS, a national database, to verify student license credentials. The NURSYS licensure and disciplinary database is the repository of the data provided directly from the Nursing Commission to the National Council of State Boards of Nursing’s (NCSBN) and is primary source equivalent. To learn more about NURSYS, please click or tap here

To assist in expeditiously verifying your credentials, please ensure your information is available in this database and correctly typed on your ApplyTexas application.

We also encourage you to sign up for NURSYS e-notify.

Using NURSYS you will benefit by receiving license expiration reminders, status updates to your license, and tracking your nurse license verifications for endorsement. Visit the link above to learn more about the benefits of e-notify.
