Dissertation Lab

What is D-Lab?

The graduate school offers an Online Dissertation Lab (D-Lab) to help students progress through the challenging process of writing their dissertation. Over the course of two days, D-Lab furnishes support for focused and productive writing. A half-day follow up event offers additional support for participants to continue building upon their progress. The program provides participants with the structure and motivation to overcome typical roadblocks in the dissertation process. Our goal is to assist each participant in making significant progress towards completing their dissertation. 95% of students who attended at least one Dissertation Lab have completed their degree.

Is D-Lab Right for You?

This program is designed for students who have completed their dissertation research and/or data collection and analysis. The Online D-Lab provides participants with:

  • Focused time for writing
  • Advice for setting realistic goals, overcoming writing blocks, and time management
  • Resources and advice for limiting stress and staying motivated
  • Networking and support from fellow dissertation writers
  • On-call personalized feedback from a graduate writing consultant

Accepted participants must be prepared to write and agree to attend both days of the online program in May, as well as the half-day follow up event in June.

Application Procedure

Only 20 students will be selected to participate in D-Lab. The graduate school will begin accepting online applications for the 2022 Online D-Lab on April 15, 2022. Students must submit the online application (with all required documents attached) prior to the May 6, 2022 deadline. Required documents are as follows:

  1. A brief statement describing your goals for the Dissertation Lab
  2. A copy of your approved dissertation proposal
  3. A timeline for completion of dissertation including projected date of defense

All materials must be received electronically via the online application. Participants will be selected based upon time to degree completion and the connection between the student's workshop goals and the timeline for completing the dissertation.
