The UTA Lockheed Martin College Work Experience Program (CWEP)

The UTA Lockheed Martin College Work Experience Program (CWEP), which allows undergraduate and graduate students to gain real-world work skills and abilities relevant to their academic and career goals, is one of numerous UTA initiatives designed to increase meaningful engagement between the University and the corporate community. It aligns with UTA’s Maverick Advantage program, which prepares students for careers through experiential, hands-on learning opportunities.

Lockheed Martin is a global security and aerospace company that employs approximately 125,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. 

  • CWEP is a 2 (consecutive) semester-long program that is open to both undergraduates and graduate students. CWEPs can work up to 19 hours per week and up to 40 hours per week during Spring, Summer and Winter Breaks per Supervisor approval, Monday-Thursday. The CWEP Program is a paid opportunity for students in which pay is based on class standing (Freshman, Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors, Grad Students (Masters-level) and the specific position assigned (technical vs. non-technical).

Spring 2021 Important Program Information:

  • For the safety of the students and Lockheed Martin workforce, all CWEPs must work virtually 100% of the time.     
  • At this time, we are currently hiring for 100% virtual positions.
  • If chosen for an interview, interviews will be conducted either over the phone or through video call. Lockheed Martin Hiring Managers handle the scheduling of interviews.
  • Students must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Students must be eligible to obtain a U.S. secret security clearance upon request and to obtain a secret security clearance, you must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Students must have completed at least one semester at UTA prior to applying for the program.
  • Be enrolled as a full-time student at UTA for Fall and Spring Semesters.
    • Undergraduate Students = 12 hours
    • Graduate Students (masters-level) = 9 hours.
    • *Any college credits being taken at another institution must be in addition to full-time enrollment at UTA.
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA for undergraduate students is preferred, but not required.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA for graduate students (masters-level) is preferred, but not required.
  • Students must agree to background screening and urine drug screening. Students must understand and agree that no person with a positive drug test will be assigned to work at Lockheed Martin facilities.
    • Once the student has passed both the background screening and the drug screening, and begins work at Lockheed Martin, the student understands they will be under constant background screening while employed.
  • Work at least 12 hours per week, up to 19 hours max, Monday – Thursday.
  • Students are NOT permitted to hold other paid positions on campus while participating in the program.
  • UTA / CWEP will consider and approve applicants for the CWEP Program without regard to race, ethnicity, religion, color, sex, national origin, age, United States military veteran's status, ancestry, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status or family structure. Further, UTA / CWEP will consider and approve applicants for CWEP without regard to mental or physical disability so long as the essential functions of the job can be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

  1. Visit https://uta.peopleadmin.com/
  2. Students will need to create an account on People Admin in order to apply for the College Work Experience Program. Once an account is created, students can sign in and apply as well as save applications for future submissions. 
  3. Click CWEP Students (blue button).
  4. Review the Non-Technical Job Posting and Technical Job Posting and apply accordingly based on your background (major, work experience).
  5. Complete the application in its entirety. Please note you will be required to upload your resume and unofficial transcript (from MyMav).

  6. Submit your application.

After you have accepted the position by signing an offer letter, you will receive a detailed email with instructions including the following:

  • A Background Check Form to fill out/submit.
  • A Drug Screen Form with information on where to go for your drug screen.
  • A link to register for ‘New CWEP Virtual Orientation’, sessions will be held every Monday morning.
  • A link to schedule an appointment with UT Arlington Human Resources for the New Employee Paperwork Session with specific instructions on completing some pre-work (I-9) before the appointment.
  • A NEAT Form to fill out/submit in order to get access to the Lockheed Martin Facility and equipment.
  • Information on visiting Lockheed Martin to pick-up your equipment, have your picture taken for your Lockheed Martin badge, etc.
  • UTA Compliance Training – will receive an email (in your UTA Staff email account) from the UTA Compliance Training Office – specifically Toyi D Vaughan – with the instructions and due date.
  • Lockheed Martin New Employee Training – will receive an email (in your Lockheed Martin email account) with the instructions and due date.

Responsibilities and expectations for Students while in the CWEP Program include:

  • Maintain full-time enrollment status at UTA.
    • Undergraduate Students = 12 hours
    • Graduate Students (masters-level) = 9 hours
  • Students must inform CWEP Coordinator of changes in his/her academic program/major as they occur.cwep@uta.edu
  • Students cannot hold another employed position while participating in CWEP without the approval of the UTA CWEP Coordinator.  Outside employment will be vetted through LMC’s internal system for any potential conflict of interest.
  • Students are NOT permitted to hold other paid positions on campus while participating in the program.
  • Students are responsible for their own transportation.
  • Submit your timesheet on a weekly basis to cwep@uta.edu for processing. Failure to do so, will result in a delayed paycheck.

CWEP Student Time Proces:

  • Due to Lockheed Martin’s payroll system, CWEP students will be paid for 2-week periods as they fall within the 1st – 15th and 16th – 30th/31st.These dates are as follows:

  • CWEP students are required to send their weekly approved timesheet to the Lockheed Martin Career Development Center at cwep@uta.edu by COB every Thursday.
  • Payroll will be entered weekly from Lockheed’s system into UTShare on Monday mornings before noon in order to meet UTA HR deadlines.
  • *Any time not approved/turned in, will not be entered/processed.
