Notes from Dylan Bryce

Dylan Bryce, said “ UTA, CWEP is a fast track to an amazing career at one of the best companies to work for in the world. The leaders at Lockheed Martin is great at working with the Lockheed Martin College Work Experience Program (CWEP) students and was very flexible with my work schedule during the school semesters.”

Tell us about yourself/family and your free time!

I am from Fort Worth and have lived here most of my life. I’m currently working for Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control in Grand Prairie. In my free time I enjoy working out and spending time with family and friends.

What was your major? What attracted you to the Aerospace Engineering field?

I was a Software Engineering major. I have always had an interest in computers which made the Software Engineering field a pretty natural choice.

Why did you choose to attend UTA?

I chose UTA because of their distinguished engineering programs, their location in the DFW metroplex, and their relationships with leading companies in the area.

Were you a part of Lockheed Martin College Work Experience Program (CWEP)? How would CWEP program help you or what are the benefits of completing the program?

Yes, I was a CWEP! The program is fantastic. It helped me gain valuable, hands-on experience that I would not have received at a normal internship, allowed me to work while attending school, and helped me secure the full time position that I am in now after graduation. Highly recommend!

Where do you currently work? Please describe your current job responsibilities.

I work as a Guidance, Navigation, and Controls Engineer for Lockheed Martin. GNC engineers are responsible for developing algorithms and implementing software that enable airborne vehicles to fly, such as autopilot systems.

Describe your path to your current position. What have you learned along the way?

I started as a Systems Engineering CWEP at Lockheed Martin. I worked across functions with the Systems, Integration & Test, and Software teams which allowed me to gain a great amount of knowledge across the entire program. I then transitioned to an intern, and then accepted a full time job offer at Lockheed Martin after graduation.

What do you enjoy the most about your work/project?

Software engineers solve complex problems by writing code, while employing engineering practices and principles. Essentially, we develop software solutions in a structured and measure way to maximize stakeholder value.

What is a professional highlight of your career? Or What are the keys to your career success?

I once had the opportunity to give a presentation to a current sitting US congressman while working as a CWEP at Lockheed Martin. Opportunities like this as well as networking are a great way to get your name out there and usually pave the way for more opportunities in the future.

Describe your UTA, The College of Engineering experience. How did UTA help prepare for your career achievement?

My UTA experience was amazing. In addition to top-notch instruction, UTA provided many opportunities to set myself up for career success. The CWEP program was undoubtedly the most impactful example of that.

Your career is a dream job. What advice would you give current students interested in pursuing a career in your field?

Study hard, network, and always take advantage of any opportunity you’re given. If you put in the work now, it will certainly pay off. Especially if you take advantage of the opportunities that the UTA College of Engineering provides.

Anything else you would like to share?

Perseverance is the key to success. Put your head down, do the work, and you will accomplish anything you set your mind to.
