Non-Resident Online Distance Education (NRODE)

Our Program is Affordable

Non-Resident Texas online students will matriculate under the Non-Resident Online Distance Education Program (NRODE).  In the NRODE program your tuition and other costs will be much less than what a typical non-resident/out-of-state student would pay. Many students, especially depending upon their local school options, will save 40% to 50% in tuition and fees.

 5-SCH Course

$3,962.05 per course or $792.41 per SCH

*NRODE: Please note that these charges are based on the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 Academic years and are estimates to be used for planning purposes only. This chart is only for UTA Non-Texas Residents prospective students who plan to enroll in our BSW, MSW, or DSW Non-Resident Online Distance Education (NRODE) programs (charges above include tuition and fees showing per course or scheduled credit hour (SCH) for undergraduate (UGRD) and graduate (GRAD) courses). To be billed correctly, NRODE students must enroll in the Distance Learning Out-of-State online course section for each of their classes.

NRODE: Nonresident students who are enrolled in a distance education course(s) (online) and are physically residing outside the state of Texas are charged a fee in lieu of Mandatory Tuition and Fees. The fee rate is equivalent to Tuition and Mandatory Fees for a Texas Resident enrolled in the same distance education course(s), plus an additional $20 per SCH. Some courses may have an additional Distance Learning Course Fee of $20 - $500 per course. See the table above. As a result of actions by the Texas Legislature to improve affordability in higher education, all resident undergraduate academic costs, including tuition, mandatory academic fees, all academic-related general fees, and college course fees, have been frozen for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 academic years. Based on the student referendum, Resolution 24-03, “Renovate & Renew,” the student union fee will increase to $150 per semester, effective Fall 2024.

All other prospective students (face-to-face and Texas residents) should follow the UTA Tuition Estimator.

Our Program is Flexible and Convenient

  • NRODE students must reside outside the state of Texas during their matriculation while completing the program online (synchronous and asynchronous classes available).
  • NRODE students will complete their required field internship locally where they reside at an approved agency/organization.
  • Advanced Standing Students can complete our program in 12 months. Traditional Standing Students can complete the program in 24 months or less.
  • Domestic admission requirements for NRODE MSW Program Online for Non-Texas Residents are the same as our Texas residents following the simple two-step process.

Accreditation and Social Work Licensure

Graduates from our Council on Social Work Education’s (CSWE) Accredited MSW program are eligible to apply for Social Work licensure in all 50 states, Washington, D.C., the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Canadian provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, and Manitoba. Our curriculum, through its compliance with CSWE’s Educational Policies and Accreditation Standards (EPAS), encompasses the content included in the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) three categories of master’s level licensure exams. These exams are accepted in all 50 U.S. states; Washington, D.C.; the U.S. Virgin Islands; and the provinces of Alberta, British Columbia and Manitoba in Canada. Certain locales may have additional requirements; this information is available from ASWB.

**It is the student’s responsibility to check with their state licensing board for any additional requirements such as taking a specific course, more field internship hours, or character fitness/criminal background check. Prospective students should do this prior to applying, before enrolling, and before graduating.
