Education and Outreach

Community Engagement

The UTA Office of Sustainability not only engages with the UTA population but also strives to engage with the metroplex at large. We do this through many different programs like leading sustainability coalitions like RCE and NTFPA, working with UTA’s Center for Service Learning, and NCTCOG.

Eco Reps

UTA Office of Sustainability’s Eco-Reps program is a way for students to directly engage in peer-to-peer sustainability education and promote a stronger culture of sustainability on campus. Students work in teams to create and implement educational opportunities around the UTA campus. They work to educate Mavericks on all 17 of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

Office Green Teams

The Office Green Team Program goes beyond the typical environmental initiatives that many at UT Arlington already support by taking a coordinated, long-term, and campus-wide approach. The Office of Sustainability provides resources, guidelines, and on-going consultation as needed. We also provide recognition to outstanding green Maverick offices.

Student Organizations

As an office focused on sustainability, we work with various student organizations on campus to promote sustainability at UTA. We partner with these organizations to host many different events.

Volunteer Opportunities

UTA Volunteers is a student group on campus that works with the Follett Student Leadership Center to implement volunteer and community service programming for the greater UT Arlington community.

Sustainability Committee

The Sustainability Committee is charged with improving our sustainability performance in both education and operations. The committee will facilitate regular communication with the maverick community about sustainability programs on campus. It will also review and analyze best practices and opportunities, recommend improvements, and help implementation of new programs.

Bicycle Coordinating Committee

The Bicycle Coordinating Committee consists of various stakeholders including students, staff, and other community members to make it easier for people to not only bike but also to make the campus more accessible for all “faster than feet” modes of transportation. The BCC aims to support bicycle culture on campus, promote and advocate for infrastructure upgrades, and conduct audits and surveys to encourage a bike friendly campus.

Academic Programs

Sustainability in higher education aims to help students understand the intersections and interdependencies in their social and organizational contexts and identify the leverage points that can enable transitions toward sustainability. One of the central goals of higher education in sustainability is to equip students with the knowledge, skills, competencies, and capacities that would enable them to work effectively in societal and environmental sustainability careers.
