Preventive Care

The Preventive Care Incentive Program (PCIP) encourages UT SELECT members to complete a qualifying annual preventive exam each year.

PCIP applies to active employees enrolled in UT SELECT and spouses of active employees enrolled in UT SELECT.

PCIP does not currently apply to dependent children, UT retirees or spouses of retirees, return-to-work retirees, UT CARE Medicare participants, COBRA participants or surviving dependents.

Beginning with the May 2027 paycheck, a $50 monthly premium differential per person may apply when a qualifying preventive exam is not on file. The maximum differential is $100 per month when both the employee and enrolled spouse do not meet the requirement. 

For most employees and enrolled spouses who were already covered before September 1, 2026, a qualifying preventive exam must be on file during the initial lookback period of February 2026 through February 28, 2027.

If the requirement is not met, the applicable premium differential begins with the May 2027 paycheck.

Different deadlines apply to employees and spouses whose UT SELECT coverage begins on or after September 1, 2026.

Your deadline may be different from February 28, 2027.

For individuals whose coverage begins after August 31, 2026, the deadline is based on when UT SELECT coverage begins.

For example, if your coverage begins September 1, 2026, you have until June 30, 2027 to have an annual preventive exam on file. If the requirement is not met, the applicable premium differential would begin with the October 1, 2027 paycheck.

An annual physical or preventive wellness exam will generally qualify when it is performed and submitted to BCBSTX using the appropriate preventive claim code.

Not every doctor's appointment qualifies. A visit focused on an illness, injury, medication follow-up or other diagnostic concern does not automatically meet the PCIP requirement.

A specialist visit may qualify only if the specialist actually performs the annual preventive exam and submits the appropriate preventive claim code. A preventive dental checkup does not satisfy the PCIP requirement.

When scheduling your appointment, tell your provider's office that you are scheduling your annual preventive exam or wellness visit. 

Many preventive services, including annual wellness exams and recommended screenings, are available at no out-of-pocket cost when received from an in-network provider and when the services meet the plan's preventive-care requirements.

If diagnostic or other non-preventive services are performed during the same visit, those services may be subject to your normal plan benefits and cost sharing.

Finding or discussing a health concern does not necessarily prevent your annual exam from qualifying as preventive.

If a diagnostic issue arises during your preventive visit, your provider may submit both preventive and diagnostic codes. This may mean that some services performed during the appointment are subject to your normal plan benefits and cost sharing.

No. UT SELECT does not require annual preventive exams to be exactly 365 days apart.

PCIP requires a qualifying annual preventive exam each year. If you have questions about when a particular preventive service will be covered, contact BCBSTX or the UT SELECT Concierge at 866-882-2034 before your appointment.

You may already meet the requirement.

For most currently covered employees and enrolled spouses, a qualifying preventive exam completed between February 2026 and February 28, 2027 can satisfy the initial PCIP requirement.

Log in to Blue Access for Members (BAM) and review your claims history or Explanation of Benefits (EOB) to confirm your preventive exam was received and processed.

If you used an in-network BCBSTX provider, you generally do not need to submit proof to UTA once the qualifying claim has been received and processed.

If you cannot locate your exam or are unsure whether it qualifies, contact the UT SELECT Concierge at 866-882-2034.

First, allow time for your provider to submit the claim and for BCBSTX to process it.

If you still do not see your preventive exam in Blue Access for Members, contact the UT SELECT Concierge at 866-882-2034.

The Concierge can research your claim, help determine whether the visit was submitted as preventive and answer questions about whether your exam qualifies for PCIP.

You may need to submit a claim or supporting documentation to BCBSTX so your preventive exam can be recorded for PCIP.

Some services performed during a preventive visit may be considered diagnostic or otherwise subject to normal plan cost sharing.

Review your Explanation of Benefits (EOB) to see how the services were processed. If you believe your annual preventive exam was processed incorrectly, contact your provider's billing office and the UT SELECT Concierge at 866-882-2034 for assistance.

The services performed during the appointment and how they are submitted by your provider can affect how your claim is processed.

Yes. If your spouse is enrolled in UT SELECT, your spouse has a separate PCIP requirement.

A $50 monthly premium differential may apply for the employee and another $50 may apply for the enrolled spouse if either person does not have a qualifying preventive exam on file. The maximum differential is $100 per month when neither person meets the requirement.

Completing your preventive exam does not satisfy your spouse's requirement.

No. UTA does not receive the clinical results of your preventive exam.

For PCIP administration, UTA receives information indicating whether the premium differential applies to your coverage.

UTA does not receive your preventive exam results, diagnoses, test results or details of conversations with your healthcare provider.
