The first month is about deepening your employee’s understanding of their role, building relationships, and identifying any gaps in tools, training, or support. Stay engaged and intentional as they settle into their responsibilities.

Help your new hire feel at home by introducing them to their colleagues in a relaxed setting:

  • Host a welcome lunch, coffee break, or meet-and-greet
  • Offer in-person, virtual, or hybrid options as appropriate for your team

Take time to review your department's written policies, procedures, and practices with your new hire.

In addition, explain any informal or unwritten norms that shape your team's culture - for example:

  • How meetings are typically run
  • Communication and response time expectations
  • Dress guidelines for special events or occasions
