The portfolio review does not apply to students with no prior college level design classes.
Students who have college-level transfer coursework in architecture and/or interior design are welcome to submit a portfolio for review to determine their placement in our program.
Upon transfer to UT Arlington, the Transcript Evaluators in the Office of Admissions will review coursework from preview schools to determine their acceptability at UT Arlington, the amount of credit hours they are worth, and comparability to classes taught at our University. Common courses (such as ENGL, HIST, etc.) will be reviewed for transfer and granted as applicable. Architecture and Interior Design courses will transfer under an undesignated course number (i.e. ARCHTRAN 1000, etc.). You can find more information about the transcript evaluation process on the Office of Admissions website.
In some cases, more than one course at a previous university will be used for the equivalent of a single course at UT Arlington.
Grades of "B" or better must be earned in any ARCH and/or INTD course(s) for consideration.
The portfolio must present visual work that corresponds to each course in need of review by the School of Architecture.
You are encouraged to provide your own brief summary for each course; however, the visual work will be the determining factor.
For this evaluation process, students provide in their portfolios SAMPLES of original visual work from each course in architecture completed at previous institutions. A School of Architecture studio faculty member examines this work in order to place each student in an appropriate design studio. In addition, the faculty member identifies which architecture courses will or will not be given transfer credit.
Our programs are very rigorous in developing freehand drawing, model-building, and digital design skills.
The portfolio should be neatly organized and labeled to clearly show individual work that you completed in specific classes. The portfolio should be detailed and show how your design understanding and skills developed as you progressed. The portfolio should also show your pride in your work. If group projects are submitted, indicate all team members and specifically address the work that you contributed to the project.
At the conclusion of the portfolio review, a transfer student knows how many transfer courses will be applicable to our program.
In some cases, courses will not be given transfer credit. The same program placement as at a previous school is not guaranteed.
Credit is not awarded for work experience.
Placement in the studio sequence is based upon,
Architecture and/or Interior Design lecture and seminar courses will be reviewed for transfer credit when they correspond to UT Arlington courses (and course levels) in our BS ARCH and/or BS INTD curriculum.
A syllabus is required (for each course) which includes,

Technical courses include, but are not limited to courses such as structures, Revit, etc.
Admissions into our program is in the Fall semester ONLY. Transfer Orientation attendance is mandatory for all new students. Include an unofficial copy of your transcript and a good email address to contact you. (Only students not yet attending UT Arlington can use non-UTA email accounts)
The portfolio/syllabi submissions combined should measure no larger than 20mb. The portfolio's design and content is left to each student (NOTE: our program is design-based with strong emphasis on freehand drawing and model building skills).
After the portfolio has been reviewed, notification will be sent with the results and information on placement in our program.
Portfolio review results are final.
