PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Advanced Standing Master of City and Regional Planning (MCRP) prepares students for careers as professional planners with public, private and nonprofit organizations. This program provides students with planning theory, knowledge, techniques, and skills to planning problems through hands-on learning opportunities and coursework, studio, interdisciplinary knowledge, and engagement with planning issues. The advanced standing track is available to students well-prepared through an undergraduate degree in planning or related field with five or more years of relevant and verifiable professional experience. This track can be completed in less than two years and the Planning Accreditation Board does not accredit it.

STUDENT COMPETENCIES

  • Students will be able to communicate planning information clearly and effectively in oral, written, and graphic form.
  • Students will be able to relate knowledge of the ethical and normative aspects of planning to the planning process.
  • Students will be able to identify and evaluate planning problems and to apply planning methods to their solution and communication.
  • Students will be able to identify and relate the factors influencing the growth and development of communities, cities, and regions.
  • Students will be able to understand the challenges that regions, cities, communities, and planners face in the field.

DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

The degree requires completion of 30 hours of study: 27 hours of core courses and 3 hours of elective course. A student who is well-prepared through an undergraduate degree in planning or related field and has as well five or more years of relevant and verifiable professional experience is eligible to apply for the Advanced Standing MCRP Program.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

See the UTA GRADUATE CATALOG for admission requirements. The admission requirements published in the current Catalog are undergoing revision. At present, applicants are not required to submit GRE test results to be considered for admission to our program.
