Apartment Transfer Policies

FOR BY BEDROOM APARTMENTS:

Transfer Options

Students wishing to move to a different apartment for the Fall 2024 semester must complete a transfer form in the Housing Office in the University Center. Current leaseholders also need to complete the renewal process as described. 

Approval of a Transfer Application is NOT guaranteed in any circumstance. Processing is based on availability of a vacant unit.

Transfers will be processed in the following priority:

  1. Students who renewed their current space and submitted a Transfer Application in February 2024.
  2. Students who did not renew their current space and submitted a Transfer Application in February 2024.
  3. Students who renewed their current space and submitted a Transfer Application after in February 2024.
  4. Students who did not renew their current space and submitted a Transfer Application in February 2024.

Move In for transfers for students who did not renew their space will only be offered through March 31, 2024.

Transfer applications will not be accepted for students who did not renew their current space after March 31, 2024.

To qualify for a transfer, students must:

  • Be enrolled for Fall 2024.
  • Have good rental payment history.
  • Have not committed unreasonable damages to the current residence.
  • Have not been involved in behavior that is disruptive to the community.
  • Have completed one full lease term, if a transfer has previously been completed.

Lease Assignment Options

Students wishing to assign their lease to another student must come into the Housing Office in the University Center with the student they wish to assign the lease to. Lease assignments will NOT be accepted July 23 - August 3, 2024 or August 11 - August 24, 2024. Lease Assignments may NOT have a new move in date between July 24 - August 4, 2024 or August 14 - 25, 2024. Students may only assign the lease term that is in their name. So, if you do not renew, the lease you assign will end July 31, 2024. The conditions of the lease assignment are as follows:

  • The student accepting the lease must pay a $150 at the time of completing the assignment.
  • The person assigning the lease will  have a $300 lease assignment fee charged to their MyMav account.
  • Students in their graduating semester will not be allowed to assign their lease to another student.

  4. Students who did not renew their current space and submitted a Transfer Application after February 2024.

Move In for transfers for students who did not renew their space will only be offered through March 31, 2024.

Lease Assumptions

Apartment leases run through July 31, 2024. Those leaseholders wishing to give their lease to one of their occupants over the summer or for the Fall 2024 semester should complete a Lease Assumption Application in the University Housing Office at least 60 days prior to the leaseholder’s move out date. Lease Assumption Applications for leaseholders with a move out date of May 31, must be completed by March 31. Applications for leaseholders with a move out date of June 30, must be completed by April 30. Applications for leaseholders with a move out date of July 31, must be completed by May 29. Current leaseholders also need to complete the renewal process described above.

Approved lease assumptions may only begin on the first of the month, with the current leaseholder’s lease terminating on the last day of the previous month. In the event the Lease Assumption is denied, all occupants will be required to vacate on the current leaseholder’s termination date. Please note the following requirements to have your Lease Assumption Application approved:

  1. The applicant must be a registered additional occupant with possession of keys for at least 6 months prior to requesting to assume the lease and must be willing to commit to fulfill the remainder of the lease term upon approval of the lease assumption).
  2. The applicant must be currently enrolled in at least 6 credit hours at UT Arlington (excluding summer).
  3. All apartments will be inspected by Apartment and Residence Life as part of the lease assumption application process.
  4. Both the current leaseholder and the applicant must not have been involved in behavior that is disruptive or damaging to the community. Residents on disciplinary or housing probation are not eligible for a lease assumption.
  5. The current leaseholder and the applicant must be in good financial standing with the university.
  6. Current rent for the apartment must be paid in full.
  7. The occupant must have updated all of his/her personal and emergency contact information using the Online Housing Assistant prior to completing this application.
  8. Lease assumption applications must be submitted a minimum of 60 days prior to requested lease assumption date.
  9. Lease assumptions will not be approved if the unit has not been completely vacated and made ready for occupancy within the last 2 years.

If a Lease Assumption application is denied, the current leaseholder will be responsible for penalties per the Terms and Conditions for both the current and renewal leases.

Policies Subject to Change: The University, in its sole discretion, reserves the right to make exceptions and changes to the assignment priorities and policies without prior notice and without compensation to applicants waiting for assignment to university housing.
