Engineering Leadership Development & Mentoring

The ESSC develops, coordinates, and hosts multiple programs, events & workshops to enrich & advance students’ success in their academic, career & personal development.

EXPERIENCE PROGRAMS

These programs exist to engage students in core success competencies and related experiential learning opportunities that encourage their involvement in campus/COE activities that lend themselves to increased student persistence, retention, and degree completion.

FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS

During the fall semester of every year, our incoming, first-year students are engaged in online course modules embedded into their first-year seminar course where they are engaged with the eight Career Readiness Principles identified by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE): Career/Self-Development, Communication, Critical Thinking, Equity & Inclusion, Leadership, Professionalism, and Teamwork & Technology. The course is complimented with year-round programming:

  • Initial kick-off: Students get an opportunity to socialize and mingle with their peers with food, drinks and icebreakers with prizes. Also, they'll get an opportunity to learn more about and sign up for programs and events sponsored by the Engineering Student Success Center.
  • Year-round, out-of-class workshops/seminars/events that reinforce core success competencies:
    • COE Welcome Bash -- Fall Semester
    • MAV Advantage Info Session/Student Panel -- Fall Semester
    • Alumni Connection Nights -- Fall and Spring Semesters
    • Engineering Industry Tech Talks -- Varies based on the availability of industry partners. Check our events/activities calendar for updates
