The Health, Fitness, and Wellness (HFW) Track of the BS in Exercise Science equips you to enter fields such as personal training, strength and conditioning, corporate wellness, cardiac rehabilitation, or many other career options in the fitness and healthcare industries. The HFW track is an excellent foundation for students considering graduate work in master's programs such as exercise science or athletic training, and beyond.
Successfully completing this track will open doors for you to earn nationally recognized certifications that will distinguish you as a highly qualified specialist in your field, such as the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Health Fitness Specialist (HFS) certification, or the certification offered by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS®).
The BS in Exercise Science Fitness/Wellness track has earned status under the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Education Recognition Program (ERP). The strength and conditioning component of the Health, Fitness, and Wellness track prepares and encourages students to take the NSCA CSCS® exam. By successfully completing the exam, the student earns what is widely considered to be a top credential for personal trainers and strength coaches. For information about this exciting possibility, please contact Dr. Stephen Newhart, Adjunct Professor of Strength and Conditioning, newhart@uta.edu

Undergraduate education requires students to have dedicated time to devote to studying, completing assignments, and other course work. Students are encouraged to consider their work schedules and commitments considering the demands of the program and adjust accordingly. Commitments which compete with undergraduate study may result in suboptimal academic performance and place the student in academic jeopardy.
In general, for every-one semester credit hour of enrollment a student should allocate 3 hours of study time outside of class. For example, a 3 semester credit hours course, may reasonably require 9 hours of study time, outside of class, plus any time needed to complete internships.
Students are encouraged to evaluate their energy level, familial and personal obligations, and school commitments before starting their degree program.
Students seeking financial aid assistance, should contact the Financial Aid, Scholarships and MAV ScholarShop resources.
