COLLEGE LEVEL EXAMINATION PROGRAM (CLEP)
The CLEP Subject Examinations are designed to assess achievement in specific college subjects. CLEP College Board provides a list of exam topics, including an exam overview, length of exam and study resources.
Academic Testing Services proctors most CLEP Subject Examinations. For a complete list of CLEP Subject Examinations that UT Arlington accepts for credit, refer to the table listed under College Level Examination Program (CLEP).
- All CLEP scores must be sent to UT Arlington, Academic Testing Services (school code 6013).
- CLEP exams may be retaken after a period of 90 days.
- UT Arlington students can only receive course credit if actively enrolled and have completed a semester of course credit.
Students who wish to take one of the CLEP English Examinations (College Composition Modular, English Literature and American Literature) must take an additional essay exam to earn credit. The essay exam is created by the UT Arlington English Department and administered in the Academic Testing Services lab. Students registered in a fully online degree program at UT Arlington must send an email to testing@uta.edu for further instructions.
MODERN LANGUAGE PLACEMENT
Effective August 21, 2023, the Modern Language department implemented a new exam for modern language placement and course credit. For more information regarding the Avant exam, please visit the Department of Modern Languages website or email modltesting@uta.edu.
If you have already completed a CLEP Language Exam and earned a score of at least 50, request your official CLEP score be sent to UT Arlington, Academic Testing Services (school code 6013). With a score of at least 50, you will earn credit for two language courses. If your degree requires additional language courses, please visit the Department of Modern Languages website or email modltesting@uta.edu for more information about the Avant Exam.

Subject Examinations1 (Computer) Satisfactory Scores and Course Credit
1 All CLEP Subject Examinations may be taken at any national CLEP test center, including UTA. Send scores to UTA (6013). There is a three-month waiting period for retaking any CLEP Subject Examination. A second score with a test date less than three months from the test date of the first score will not be evaluated.
2 A score of 55 on English CLEP exams establishes eligibility to have the optional English essay scored. The optional essay must be sent to Testing Services, to be scored by English Department faculty. A satisfactory score on both the objective and optional essay tests is required to be eligible for credit.
SP22 Effective Spring 2022, a minimum score of 50 awarded Spring 2022 or later, is eligible to receive corresponding course credit where applicable.

Review the CLEP Exam Registration Ticket to ensure the correct exam subject was purchased and the name matches your government ID exactly. See “Important Reminders” at the bottom of the ticket.

Register for an exam to be proctored at UT Arlington, Academic Testing Services. You will need to enter your Registration/Ticket ID number found at the top of your CLEP Exam Registration Ticket. There is a separate fee for proctoring. (CLEP Exam with Remote Proctoring is available through CLEP College Board.)

If you are an eligible veteran, you can receive full reimbursement for CLEP exam and administration fees from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. CLEP also has benefits available to veterans.
